In your opinion, which came first, the chicken or the egg?

chicken... if you watch discovery channel you'll know that a full grown animal can lose it's eyes, gain spikes or whatever is needed by its environment. a pre-chicken form of animal definitely came first which evolved through time to become our modern chicken,the hen to lay the egg. which makes me thinking there gotta be a rooster too coz then the female chicken cannot lay eggs without a mate.
