Why is it that in the 60s mini-skirts were considered symbols of feminism?

In those days, Feminism™ was more about independence and self-awareness (do your own thing) than it is today. It was part of the ual revolution that meant that men and women both could pursue their ual interests without the shame prevalent in earlier generations. During the sixties, men were not universally hated. That came later.
